The company was founded on April 15, 1996, as an initiative of Mr. Petrit Maho, who envisioned the emerging changes in healthcare services and pharmaceutical products in the Albanian market. INTERMED is licensed to import, market, store, and distribute the pharmaceutical products it represents.
Among the first companies with which a long-term partnership was established were ITALFARMACO and NOVA ARGENTIA. Through their portfolio, the company introduced its first 25 products to the market, mainly focused on disorders of the nervous system and gynecology. (…for more information see Products). The development of INTERMED was strengthened through the establishment of a partnership with Berlin-Chemie (Menarini Group), expanding both the company’s product portfolio and the range of therapeutic areas covered. Subsequently, collaborations were established with other pharmaceutical companies such as Bayer Healthcare, Alvogen, Pharma Swiss, Hoffmann-La Roche, Nobel Ilac, Allergy Therapeutics, and others. INTERMED offers the Albanian market high-quality and specialized products, including personalized vaccines, generic medicines, OTC medicines, and dietary supplements. These products cover a wide range of medical conditions across numerous therapeutic areas.
For the storage of pharmaceutical products, INTERMED operates a warehouse located in Maminas, Durrës. The warehouse has a surface area of 1,475 m², with a capacity of 1,200 pallets, and is equipped with a continuous monitoring system (Comet System MS+) for temperature and humidity. The facility complies with all pharmaceutical storage requirements and is supported by appropriate quality documentation and proper signage to ensure optimal product management.
Other investments by Mr. Maho: In 2013, the company expanded its vision with the establishment of pharmaceutical manufacturing lines primarily focused on the production of human and veterinary pharmaceutical products, mainly generic medicines as well as galenic preparations. This investment was structured into
two independent companies:
NOVAL, the company dedicated to the production of human medicines,
and VETAL, the company focused on the production and commercialization of veterinary products. Each company has its own specific product range, including solid dosage forms (tablets), semi-solid forms (creams and tinctures), parenteral preparations, and others.
